Dr Louise Michaelis

I have been a Consultant Paediatrician in Allergy and Immunology at The Great North Children’s Hospital and a Senior Lecturer within Population Health Sciences Institute, Newcastle University since 2013. Prior to this I grew up in Africa and Australia, trained at St. Andrew’s (BSc) and Edinburgh Universities (MBChB) and completed my MSc in Advanced Paediatrics at University College London (2007) and Allergy CCST (2008).

I obtained a PhD under Professors Graham Roberts, Tony Williams, Catherine Thornton and Hasan Arshad at Southampton University (2018) and continue to develop an interest in immune tolerance, dysbiosis and Th2 related allergic inflammatory disorders.

I develop and deliver phase I/II/III portfolio clinical trials to our region fo cusing on immune mechanisms, food allergy, oral immunotherapy and targeted therapies. In addition I enjoy fine collaborations within our ‘Model of Seamless Allergy Care’ North East.

I believe teaching and networking are vital to bring the very best clini cal practice and research to our region and beyond. As such I continue to actively support the Northern Paediatric Allergy Group, undergraduate/allergy eModule/MRes (Newcastle University), MSc Allergy (Southampton University), British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BRIT, BAEN), Royal College of Paediatrics and Childhood (Allergy SPIN) and European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis taskforce).
