Dr Prashant Kumar
I am a consultant paediatrician at Sunderland Royal Hospital. I am joint lead for Paediatric respiratory service and I also lead paediatric allergy service.
Our ethos is to provide high quality patient centred service to the local population which is easily accessible. In addition to the establishment of a local high quality secondary care service for asthma and allergy, we have established a model community anaphylaxis programme for Sunderland schools & early years settings. This has been presented in national meetings.
Our team was awarded national ‘Allergy UK team Hero award’ in Sep 2016. Our team has been appreciated on NHS Choices through several positive feedbacks by the patients & their carer. We were selected for national BSACI Bursary’ in 2010, 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2017 (British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology) to organise Primary care Allergy & asthma training day under BSACI endorsement.
I was awarded ‘Hospital doctor of year award’ in the best of health awards in 2014. I was also a finali st for NHS innovation in 2016 and was nominated for the ‘Reward and Recognition Award 2015’ for taking the allergy service forward in my Trust.
I was selected to be part of national NICE anaphylaxis development group (CG134) published in 2011. I also represented on ‘NICE Evidence Update Advisory Group on Anaphylaxis’ in March 2013 & 2016. I have been selected this year as an Expert Adviser for the NICE Centre for Guidelines (CfG) for next three years. I have also been on NICE Asthma guidelines Update Comm ittee since 2019.
I am excited to work with ‘BeatAnaphylaxis’ which I feel is an important effort to improve the anaphylaxis care in the region.
